The NY State Parks Explorer is a free iPhone app developed by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services. With this app, users can easily plan getaways and explore over 250 parks, historic sites, trails, golf courses, boat launches, and campgrounds in New York State.
The app provides enhanced trail mapping, must-see recommendations, and important information such as directions, hours, fees, and rates. Users can also digitally add their Empire Pass to their wallet within the app, making it convenient for pass holders. The search function has been expanded to allow visitors to search for parks and historic sites from multiple regions at a time.
One of the key features of the app is the interactive map, which provides easier wayfinding for users. When the user's mobile device's location services are turned on, they can easily see their location on the map. Users can zoom in on each map to learn more about the facility, tap on trails or icons to get information about trails, park features, and amenities, and even see the distance of trail segments. The app also allows users to change base layers in live maps, from satellite view to simple street view or topography.
